PAST SIMPLE: REGULAR VERBS

RULES OF THE PAST (regular verbs)

1. Verbs ending in -Y:

- VOWEL + Y: play → played

- CONSONANT + Y: study → studied

2. Double the last consonant:

- The verb has one syllable → stopped

- It ends in Consonant+Vowel+Cons→ clapped

3. Verbs ending in -E:

- Add a “d”: close → closed;     escape → escaped
